The WP Upgrade - Gimme A Break

As if I didn’t have enough to do, I heeded the warning in my dashboard about my version of WP not being up to date, so I decided to upgrade last night. I had finished the week’s assignments so was a bit bored and didn’t much feel like writing, so I went in and did the upgrade thing to ver. 2.3.1. Duh!

Wordpress is a great platform, but because it is open source, the people who develop it think that everyone that tries to install it knows as much as they do. I have heard the comments that they would “rather be coding than answering questions.” Man, do they have that right! I had this same difficulty when I upgraded Eco-Friendly America, and struggled once again with a new install. I have it fairly right now, but it still isn’t back to the way it was. I had backed up the DB a while ago, and thought my old ass was covered. That’s what I get for thinking…

I am going to write a tutorial on this for the site. Because this is a “How To” site, it is called for. Possibly a few other unsuspecting souls will find that it isn’t hard to do if ya got the right info…

Drive on,

Charlie~

Iraq
Kamal was just 16 when gunmen snatched him off the streets of Baghdad, stuffed him in the trunk of a car and whisked him away to a house. But the real terror was about to begin. The men realized he was gay, Kamal said, when he took his shirt off and they saw that his chest was shaved. "They told me to take off my clothes to rape me or they would kill me immediately. This moment was the worst moment in my life," he said, weeping as he spoke of the 2005 ordeal. "I was watching them taking off thei
NH: Being a Public Servant Gives One Special Priviledges the Public Doesn?t Have
In NH, public servants now have exclusive rights the peon public do not have. NASHUA ? A man who once claimed to be God has become the first person to be convicted under a new state law lowering the threshold for what can be considered a threat against public officials. A disclaimer: I do not endorse ANY form of threat made against ANY citizen. However, public ?officials? are no better or different or more deserving of special laws and protections, than the very PUBLIC they are serving
American Citizens Know How to Protest Too
Well, Pinko De Mayo has come and gone, and this year?s celebration of the Bolshevik Revolution by communism?s useful idiots had new life breathed into it in the United States. Hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens and their misguided supporters decided to protest against the rule of law in our country on the one day of the year that reminds most older Americans of the genocidal policies of men like Joseph Stalin and Pol Pot. Hundreds of businesses across the country closed their doors in def

DNC: Another Bad Week For McCain -- Apparently it CAN Get Worse
Another week of bad news, bad reviews and campaign chaos for the McCain campaign. The only change: the campaign's increasingly desperate response. In what has become a recurring theme, McCain's week was dominated by foreign policy gaffes, misleading attacks, terrible reviews and new polls showing him lagging far behind among key groups of voters. Instead of addressing those challenges, the McCain campaign chose to lash out at the media and launch desperate new attacks. Despite starting his
Arsenal big picture : sobering part 2
Parts of yesterday's piece were misleading. Expert Arsenal-watchers have explained the finances to me in round numbers. So that's what I'm sharing with you today. Accountants may baulk at this summary, but here goes : Arsenal's annual revenue is roughly £200 million. Of that £200m, about £90 million comes from gate receipts and most of that is cash, apart from the upfront payments for four years of season-tickets in Club Level.About £3m per year. Another £50m comes from TV games in the EP

Sexy Sadie Does Berlin
For months we?ve explored ?pet rocks?, The Music Man, Elmer Gantry, and the Heaven?s Gate cult, as earlier, pre-Obama, incarnations of pop flim-flam phenomena. We have discussed a February 2008 article published by Berlin?s Der Spiegel on the Obama cult. German historians know the devastation wrought by cults of personality and the need to remember history: The rise of democratic frontrunner Barack Obama signifies an alarming victory of style over substance. Not unlike the dot-com hype, his c
Tips for a well-behaved PC

Few Suggestions for Rediff, Sify, Indiatimes
[Guest post by Raja Shekhar - he has some interesting suggestions/ideas to Indian Internet companies] For the past many years, I had some ideas regarding how to utilize e-mail service and offer various other services effectively. As I have weakness with my writing, I never put it down until last year. I wrote the following e-mail (November, 2007) to all top brass of Rediff. I just would like to share few thoughts on Rediff?s offerings to make it more competitive over other players like Google

A Delicate Disclosure Issue: Steve Jobs' Health
July 25, 2008 A Delicate Disclosure Issue: Steve Jobs' Health Lately, there have been plenty of rumors about the health of Apple CEO Steve Jobs and whether he remains healthy. Until Apple finally clarified the situation on Wednesday, the company's stock price had taken a hit since the market believes he is key to the company's future (actually, the company didn't clarify - rather, it was reported in this NY Times' article based on comments made by Jobs to some of his "associates"). And
Morgan: 55-45
Morgan: 55-45 Federal Politics Morgan has released another poll just five days after the last, from a face-to-face survey of 1067 voters conducted last weekend. The agency?s figures had previously been holding out in the pre-budget Rudd honeymoon zone, but they have now come down to earth with a drop from 60-40 to 55-45. This has partly been driven by a drop in the Greens vote to 7.5 per cent from an anomalous 11.5 per cent last time. 84 comments Jul 25 2008 Six easy pieces
